Brave Steps We Practice Each time

Brave Talking

Answering questions, sharing ideas, and using their voice with new adults and peers. Children practice speaking in moments that mirror real life — greeting someone new, responding in a group, or adding a comment during an activity. The focus is on building momentum through many small, supported speaking opportunities.

Social Approach

Initiating play, joining group activities, and stepping toward peers instead of waiting on the sidelines. Children practice entering conversations, making simple requests, and participating in shared games with others. These moments help shift the pattern from hesitation to approach.

Flexible Responding

Handling uncertainty, small mistakes, and social “oops” moments without shutting down. Children practice staying engaged even when things feel imperfect — a word comes out wrong, someone else talks first, or attention shifts unexpectedly. These experiences help build resilience and reduce the pressure to get everything “just right.”

Confident Participation

Remaining engaged in group activities even when nerves show up. Children practice contributing ideas, responding when called on, and staying present in the group instead of withdrawing. Over time, participation becomes less effortful and more natural.

  • The day is designed to create many small opportunities for brave participation. Children move through structured activities that include cooperative games, social interaction challenges, and supported speaking opportunities with both peers and adults.

Our team guides each child through individualized brave steps throughout the day, helping them practice participation in moments that mirror real-life situations — answering questions, joining conversations, and engaging in group activities.

  • Many families use MMK Club as a confidence booster within their child’s broader treatment plan. The intensive format allows children to experience many practice opportunities in a short period of time, helping build momentum that can sometimes take longer in weekly therapy alone.

For some children, MMK Club serves as a bridge between therapy sessions, while others attend after completing a larger intensive like MMK Camp to help maintain progress.

  • This group is designed for children ages 3–6 with selective mutism or social anxiety who are ready for supported, in-person exposure practice in a small group format.

If you're unsure, we’re happy to talk through goals and determine fit together.

  • Groups are intentionally small (no more than 8 participants) so each child receives individualized support and many opportunities to practice brave participation.

Keeping the group size limited also helps create a warm, predictable environment where children can take social risks without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Parents receive detailed feedback between at the end of the day so progress doesn’t stop at the door.

We’ll help you reinforce brave moments at home, reduce accommodations that unintentionally maintain silence, and support speaking in everyday routines.
